Feb 9th 2010. Hello everyone, Wow what a great weekend we had, it was sunny!!!!! As well as the sun we had some great music at Lounge with Pat and the boys on Friday getting the place hopping, Manu da Banda on Saturday with an amazing selection of music in spanish. Isn't it great, I didn't understand a word they sang and there was not a song I knew and yet it made no difference, it was fantastic. The small but enthusiastic crowd had a ball, and those of us there until the wee small hours had an encore jam session...great night. Then on Sunday we had Hot Club Sandwich, and these guys are extraordinary. So tight and professional, and very amusing in the lyrics.
This week Friday 8.00pm "The Saints and Sinners Tour" What do you get when you mix the winner of this years’ Tui Award, a Silver Scroll nominee and the winner of an International Songwriting Competition A divine and potent cocktail called “Saints and Sinners”. Internationally acclaimed female songsmiths Tami Neilson, Lauren Thomson and Jackie Bristow will be swapping songs and stories in front of audiences on a 12-date national tour in February 2010. This writers-in-the-round show will be an intimate acoustic evening, three solo artists joining forces on stage and sharing the experiences that inspired their songs, from opening for Johnny Cash and Art Garfunkel to touring from Canada to Europe, the USA to Japan. Drawing comparisons with Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch, Patty Griffin and Roy Orbison, these women bring 3 unique voices together for a rare collaborative show. $10 cover Saturday Danny Spooner's passion is the expression of British and Australian culture through folk music. His songs cover the full gamut of human emotions, endeavours and experiences. Legendary is his wharfside shanty session where you can follow a sea journey in song, sing the work songs that raise the sails; but beware, if he sings about reducing the sails, the chances are he'll sing up a storm. Danny has performed in folk clubs all over Australia, New Zealand and in Britain on his visits home. He has appeared at every major folk festival in Australia This is a folk concert not to miss $10 cover.
Our summer music season is drawing to a close and unfortunately two proposed gigs have had to cancel.Rory Ellis from Australia had to cancel his whole NZ tour for personal reasons and The De Sotos could not fit us in this time around. But it has been great, and there is more to come. Watch this space. As you are all aware this is the first time we have used a cover charge in a consistant way, we would love feed back, how do you feel about cover charges, are you happy to pay for top class music or not please feed back we would love to know your thoughts. Finally this week I am a little sad but feel I have no option. From this week until further notice Lounge will not open on Wednesdays, this is brought about by my having to work daytimes at schools to pay some bills at home and feeling a little old to work day and night as I did last year. So from now Lounge will open from 4 till late Thursday till Sunday. Hope to see you there. Chris
